Card Payments

Extending choice with card payments

Card Payments within Capita's UNIT-e student management software, allows students to make payments by credit or debit card. This module uses a range of secure, convenient and sector standard payment channels, including the internet, the telephone or over the counter.

Fully integrated with Capita's UNIT-e student management software, payments can be taken either at time of enrolment or where appropriate, for courses that are already underway which offer scheduled payment terms. In addition, any ad-hoc payments for items such as travel, materials, examination fees or field trips can be made at any time through the Student Portal. This solution includes a range of accessible payment options that extend the choice of payment methods available to students and their parents. They also deliver tangible benefits and efficiency savings to organisations such as reducing the time from invoice to payment.

How does the Card Payments process work?

  1. The learner selects the desired course and correct fees to pay
  2. Processing passes seamlessly to a secure card entry screen
  3. Card details are entered and validated

Capita Further and Higher Education (FHE) harnesses the overall Capita Group purchasing power to offer you very competitive card processing rates as well as peace of mind that all payments are classed as ‘secure’.

Totton College is a long-standing user of Card Payments and for Alex Richards, Director for Customer Services at the College, the solution has already delivered a range of benefits. He commented, "Our aim for a secure system that fully integrates with UNIT-e has been completely met by this approach. Our staff find the payment processes efficient and all transactions are automatically receipted for analysis and reporting in our core UNIT-e student records system.”

A focus on the needs of the learner is very much at the heart of what Totton College does. Alex added, “Our customers find the range of payment options very convenient and have the reassurance that the security of their card details is always paramount”.

Card payments are processed by Capita’s Secure Bureau Service (SBS), a part of Capita’s Managed Service infrastructure. Since its inception in 2001 it has been delivering market-leading levels of reliability, performance and security. Managed by a dedicated team, this solution is used by over 200 organisations that  process over 1.7 million payments with a total value of more than £140 million each month.

The Card Payment solution incorporates the latest measures to help combat card fraud including CSC (Card Security Code) validation for both mail order telephone order (MOTO)) and internet payments and card password validation (Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode – collectively termed 3D Secure) for payments made via the internet.

Capita’s managed service products are certified to Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) Level 1 and Capita is one of the first suppliers to the public sector to achieve the standard.
