Capita Mobile Solutions sees rise in take-up of mobile registration solution for schools

Capita Mobile Solutions has seen a significant rise in take-up of mobile registration in schools across the UK as school staff are legally obliged to monitor students' attendance wherever they are located. The new school attendance legislation came into force on 1 September 2006 across all schools in England.

Capita's SIMS Mobile Registration system allows teachers to record attendance electronically from anywhere in or around their school using a pocket PC. The technology has been designed for teachers to use simply and has been bought by over 60 schools since December last year. With the increasing mobility of teachers and students in and around the school, effective recording and tracking of attendance has become very challenging.

After a recent installation of the system at Newman RC School in Carlisle, Steve Young, Network Manager at the school spoke about the immediate benefits his school experienced. “Mobile registration makes a huge difference to the amount of time we spend recording attendance and it's a real bonus to have quick and easy useful information on students. For example, past attendance data is now in the palm of our hands. We need accurate data to go back into the system immediately and having this product allows us to do this.”

Capita Mobile Solutions integrates with Capita's SIMS management information system (MIS), installed in 80 per cent of the UK's 20,000 schools. After attendance information has been entered on the Pocket PC, it is submitted wirelessly to the SIMS database within seconds. It also enables teachers to access student data such as parent or guardian contact details and medical information.

While SIMS mobile registration is now widely available, Capita provide a complete service inline with SIMS, allowing the client to use only one supplier.
